This week’s Barna Minute reveals what U.S. adults, both Christian and non-Christian, are looking for spiritually as well as what pastors think people are searching for spiritually.
Data from Barna’s Spiritually Open series shows that inner peace is the top spiritual desire of U.S. adults (37%), Christians (40%), those of other faiths (35%) and those with no faith (30%) with the second top desire being hope (35% of U.S. adults, 40% of Christians, 31% those of other faiths, 24% those with no faith).
When asked what they believe people are looking for in their spiritual beliefs, pastors’ top responses largely reflect the current reality. Sixty-one percent say “hope,” 59 percent note “purpose” and 58 percent choose “inner peace” as being what people are looking for spiritually.
