This week’s episode takes a look at which life areas younger generations believe older generations can offer wisdom about.
In Barna’s recent briefing, Making Space from Generation to Generation—which explores topics from the Making Space collection as well as our Aging Well study—data reveals five life areas younger generations (ages 54 or less) want guidance from older generations (ages 55+). The five key areas include finances, career advice, relationships, marriage and living purposefully, with younger adults—that is, Gen Z, Millennials and Gen X—often stating that someone from an older generation could offer guidance on any of these areas.
Broken down by generation, we see that both Gen X and Millennials are most often inclined to believe older generations—Boomers and Elders—can offer solid guidance about relationships (54% Gen X, 46% Millennials. Gen Z, on the other hand, most often says they’d look to older generations for guidance in finances and career advice (43% each), responses that perhaps directly reflect on Gen Z’s current stage of life.
